Spring Outing
Saturday
27 April

Our Spring Outing to Cheddar features three routes up into and around the Mendip Hills:
10 miles - a circular walk from Cheddar towards Black Rock then along Velvet Bottom, past Charterhouse and over Black Down returning via Tynings Farm
7.5 miles - a circular walk from Cheddar towards Black Rock then along Velvet Bottom past Charterhouse towards Black Down returning via Piney Sleight Farm
4.8 miles - a circular walk up one side of the Gorge to Black Rock and Piney Sleight Farm then back down the other side of the Gorge.

Initially, the path up the east side of Cheddar Gorge is steep and rocky in places. If you have walking sticks you may find them useful. Bring a packed lunch and drinks (no shops, cafés or pubs on the routes). There are many cafés and shops at the end of the walk.

We will travel by car from Nadder Close Car Park at 9.00am and return by 6.00pm. We will park in the Cliff Street carpark (Post code BS27 3PS) (All day charge £5.50). For those who do the shorter walk, it may be possible to return earlier subject to car availability. After the walks, there are a number of places of interest in Cheddar including the famous caves, the Cheddar Cheese Visitor Centre and a number of cafes serving cream and other teas.

If you intend to join this outing, please contact us.

Annual subscription
£1 for adults and 50p for children. It is due at the AGM at the end of January. Otherwise, this is payable when you join a walk for the first time during the year.

Transport
It is greatly appreciated if people can share transport from the car park as parking is often limited at the starting point of the walk. Passengers should take a change of shoes to avoid mud in cars and also help with fuel costs. We suggest £1.50 for up to 30 minutes and £2.50 for a longer journey.

Dogs are welcome on walks but have to be on a lead at all times.

As the Club has no insurance, please be aware that if you take part in a walk, you do so at your own risk and that neither the walk leader nor the Club can accept liaibility for any injury or loss whatever.

We always welcome people who are prepared to lead a walk.
